Economically Weaker Section – EWS Reservation.


There are so many doubts & queries among the candidates about 10% Newly Introduced Economically Weaker Section Reservation (Quota) some candidates have the misunderstanding that if they come under EWS category then they will be considered only for 10% EWS reservation and not able to take admission in open and their chance of getting admission or job will be less.

Q-What is EWS Reservation Quota?

Ans- Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) Quota among the general category candidates in 2019.
The move is to provide a 10% reservation to open category of poor & lower-middle-class people to get benefits in higher education and government employment.

Q- How many types of EWS certificate to be made?

Ans-There are two types of EWS certificate which can be made one is for All India level reservation under central government institutional & jobs provided by central government & second is for state-level Reservation university or colleges those who have registered under state government both government & private institutions, eligibility criteria for both are different from the other


Q-1 What is the eligibility criteria for claiming EWS Reservation quota for All India Level?

Below are the criteria for claiming All India EWS certificate

1- Persons who are not covered under the scheme of reservation for SCs, STs and OBCs and whose family has a gross annual income below Rs 800 thousand (Rupees eight lakh only) are to be identified as EWSs for benefit of reservation. Income shall also include income from all sources i.e. salary, agriculture, business, profession, etc. for the financial year prior to the year of application.
Also, persons whose family owns or possesses any of the following assets shall be excluded from being identified as EWS, irrespective of the family income:-

2- Not hold 5 acres of agricultural land and above;

3- Not have Residential premises of 1000 sq ft. and above;

4- Not have a Residential plot of 100 sq. yards and above in notified municipalities;

5- Not have a Residential, plot of 200 sq. yards and above in areas other than the notified municipalities.

The property held by a “Family” in different locations or different places/cities would be clubbed while applying the land. or property holding test to determine EWS status.

The term “Family” for this purpose will include the person who seeks the benefit of reservation, his/her parents and siblings below the age of 18 years as also his/her spouse and children below the age of 18 years.

Q- What are the eligibility criteria for claiming EWS Reservation Quota for Maharashtra state?

Every state have different rulers for eligibility criteria for calming EWS Reservation benefits, for Maharashtra state only those candidates who have residency stay proof from 1967 are eligible for opting EWS reservation benefits means those have a proof that their father or forefather were a resident of Maharashtra since 1967 & they have supporting documents are eligible for under EWS reservation.

Eligibility criteria for Maharashtra state

1- Persons who are not covered under the scheme of reservation for SC, ST, OBC, VJ, NTI, NTII, NTIII and SEBC whose family has a gross annual income below Rs 800 thousand (Rupees eight lakh only) are to be identified as EWSs for benefit of reservation. Income shall also include income from all sources i.e. salary, agriculture, business, profession, etc. for the financial year prior to the year of application.
Also, persons whose family owns or possesses any of the following assets shall be excluded from being identified as EWS, irrespective of the family income:-

2- In order to avail the benefit of this reservation, the person or the family of the deceased may enter the state of Maharashtra on or earlier 13 October 1967 & Must be a resident of Maharashtra.

Please Note: There are no land Holding criteria for calming EWS certificate for Maharashtra state.

Q- Can EWS candidates claim unreserved or open seats?
Ans- Any category reserved candidates including EWS candidates by default eligible for open or Unreserved seats on merit basis. In fact, their chance of getting admission will be doubled both in open & as well as in their category

Q- Can a reserved category candidate is eligible for EWS Quota?
Ans- EWS Quota is only for those who didn’t come under any reservation benefits granted by the central government or state government, this new introduced quota is only for unreserved candidates of any religion or cast.

Q- Where to make EWS certificate?
Before applying to an EWS certificate make sure you have your income and asset certificates available in your hand, you can make it from the Tehsildar office, Maha e Seva Kendra, District Magistrate, Deputy Commissioner, Additional District Magistrate or Additional Deputy Commissioner, or Sub-Divisional Officers.

Q- I have made EWS certificate last year but not able to secure admission, is last year made EWS certificate valid for this year’s admission session?
Ans- Validity of EWS certificate is only for one year, if candidates not utilities their EWS certificate for the current academic year then he/she should be made a new one for next academic session by completing all the formality.

Q-What is the validity period of an EWS certificate (ALL INDIA & State)
Ans-Both All India & Maharashtra state EWS certificate validity period is one year from the date issue of the certificate. 

Q- Can EWS candidates avail themselves the same eligibility criteria benefits like ST SC OBC candidates have on score/percentage/percentile while applying for admission?
Ans- EWS candidate don’t have any relaxation on scores/percentage/percentile their eligibility criteria is the same as open/unreleased candidates but they have relaxation on Age, examination fee and other allowable concessions to the candidates in this category.
Q – Can EWS candidates avail any fees benefit while taking admission into Professional Courses 
Ans – EWS Candidates get 50% waiver or reimbursement in tuition fees while taking admission in professional courses
