BSMS: What is it About?

BSMS: Siddhargal" or Siddhars were the premier scientists of ancient days. Siddhars, mainly from Southern India, in the state of Tamil Nadu laid the foundation for Siddha system of medicine. Siddhars were spiritual adepts who possessed the ashtasiddhis. Agastyar or Agasthya, is believed to be the founding father of Siddha Medicine. Eighteen Siddhars are considered to be important in the Siddha Medicine. Siddha medicine is claimed to revitalize and rejuvenate dysfunctional organs that cause the disease and to maintain the ratio of Dosha. Kayakarpam (special combination of medicine and life style) and Muppu (the universal Salt) are speciality of Siddha system of medicine. B.S.M.S. (Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery) is an undergraduate program in Siddha System of Medicine, which is the most ancient among the AYUSH (Ayurvedha, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) systems. According to Siddha philosophy, the psychological and physiological functions of human body are controlled by SEVEN elements – saram (plasma), cheneer (blood), ooun (muscle), kozhuppu (fat), elumbu (bone), moolai (nerve) and inthiriyam (semen). These seven elements are activated by three Mukkuttram – vatha (air), pitha (fire or heat or energy) and kapha (water). The imbalance of any of these Mukkuttram results in disease and Siddha System of Medicine corrects the vitiated Mukkuttram for healthy life. Students who aspire to become a Doctor, but are not able to secure a M.B.B.S. seat would generally prefer B.D.S., B.H.M.S., B.A.M.S., B.U.M.S., B.S.M.S., or B.N.Y.S. The duration of B.S.M.S. course in India is 5.5 years with 4.5 years of classroom study and ONE year compulsory internship. On completion of the program, students are eligible to prefix “Dr.” before their name and to be called as a Doctor. B.S.M.S. course is governed by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), which is the statutory apex body working under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of AYUSH.

BSMS Eligibility

The candidate must be a Indian Nationals, Non Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizen of India (OCI), & Persons with Indian Origin (PIO)

The Candidate has completed age of 17 years at the time of admission or will complete that age on or before 31 December of the year of his/her admission to the first year Undergraduate Medical Courses .

The upper age limit for NEET (UG) is 25 years as on the date of examination with relaxation of 5 years for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC-NCL category and PwD Candidates.

The candidate must be medically fit and must submit a certificate of medical fitness at the time of Admission.

The candidate must have passed the qualifying examination i.e. Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC/12th Standard) or equivalent examination, with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany & Zoology)

A candidate belonging to OPEN Category and EWS Category must have obtained not less than 50% (i.e. 150 out of 300) marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology, taken together at the HSC (or equivalent) Examination.

A candidate belonging to constitutional reservation except EWS Category and constitutional reservation with Person With Disability claim must have obtained not less than 40% (i.e. 120 out of 300) marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together at the HSC (or equivalent) Examination. Person with disability candidate in General category must secure not less than 45% marks (i.e. 135 out of 300) in Physics, Chemistry & Biology (PCB) taken together at the HSC (or equivalent) Examination or decided by respective Central Council.

NEET Eligibility for Admission to BSMS.

A candidate belonging to OPEN Category & EWS Category must secure not less than 50 percentile marks in Physics, Chemistry & Biology (PCB) taken together in the NEET UG Exam

A candidate belonging to constitutional reservation except EWS Category and constitutional reservation with Person with disability claim must secure not lessthan 40 percentile marks in Physics, Chemistry & Biology (PCB) taken together in the NEET UG Exam

Person with disability candidate in General category must secure not less than 45 percentile marks in Physics, Chemistry & Biology (PCB) taken together in the NEET UG exam or decided by respectivecentral council time to
time.
