Ayurveda means "the science of life" (ayur means "life" and veda means "science" in Sanskrit). Ayurveda is a discipline of the upaveda or "auxiliary knowledge" in Vedic tradition. Ayurveda has its prime origin from Atharva-Veda and apart as a supplement of the Rig-Veda. Dhanvantari is worshipped as the God of Ayurveda. The aim of this system is to prevent illness¸ heal the sick and preserve life. The Ayurveda has its origins from the India and extended its wings in various parts of the world. Ayurveda was taught in Gurukula system in ancient days, which is now been evolved in to under graduate & post graduate courses from Institutions.

BAMS: What is it about?

Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery is a medicinal course which imparts to students the knowledge of healing properties of the Ayurveda. Ayurveda finds its roots in India and traces back to the Vedic ages. Though many students opt for this stream, Ayurveda has a lot of scope for the development of the student. Have a look at the following table to get a glimpse into the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery. First of all, let us check out the basic details associated with the course. BAMS (Ayurvedacharya) Basic details- Ayurveda is a branch of alternative medicine. The term ‘Ayurveda’ stands for Science of life! It is a mode of treatment that is inspired by natural cure for ailments. This science actually originated in India. Its roots can be traced back to the Vedas! BAMS course is designed to train students to get familiar with concepts of Ayurveda and make use of them to treat patients. Ayurveda mostly focuses on natural cures as well as lifestyle changes to cure ailments. The course covers those topics in detail and helps train students to use those very solutions to solve modern-day diseases also! In the first year, non-clinical subjects are taught. In the second year, subjects like Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Charaka and Toxicology are taught. Some important subjects taught during third year are- Pathology, Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Pediatrics. Some important subjects taught during the last one and a half years are- Ayurvedic Surgery, Panchkarma and General Medicine. The last year is dedicated to Internship.

BAMS Eligibility

The candidate must be a Indian Nationals, Non Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizen of India (OCI), & Persons with Indian Origin (PIO)

The Candidate has completed age of 17 years at the time of admission or will complete that age on or before 31 December of the year of his/her admission to the first year Undergraduate Medical Courses .

The upper age limit for NEET (UG) is 25 years as on the date of examination with relaxation of 5 years for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC-NCL category and PwD Candidates.

The candidate must be medically fit and must submit a certificate of medical fitness at the time of Admission.

The candidate must have passed the qualifying examination i.e. Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC/12th Standard) or equivalent examination, with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany & Zoology)

A candidate belonging to OPEN Category and EWS Category must have obtained not less than 50% (i.e. 150 out of 300) marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology, taken together at the HSC (or equivalent) Examination.

A candidate belonging to constitutional reservation except EWS Category and constitutional reservation with Person With Disability claim must have obtained not less than 40% (i.e. 120 out of 300) marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together at the HSC (or equivalent) Examination. Person with disability candidate in General category must secure not less than 45% marks (i.e. 135 out of 300) in Physics, Chemistry & Biology (PCB) taken together at the HSC (or equivalent) Examination or decided by respective Central Council.

NEET Eligibility for Admission to BAMS.

A candidate belonging to OPEN Category & EWS Category must secure not less than 50 percentile marks in Physics, Chemistry & Biology (PCB) taken together in the NEET UG Exam

A candidate belonging to constitutional reservation except EWS Category and constitutional reservation with Person with disability claim must secure not lessthan 40 percentile marks in Physics, Chemistry & Biology (PCB) taken together in the NEET UG Exam

Person with disability candidate in General category must secure not less than 45 percentile marks in Physics, Chemistry & Biology (PCB) taken together in the NEET UG exam or decided by respectivecentral council time to
time.
