MDS (Conservative Dentistry): What is it About?
MDS in Conservative Dentistry deals with prevention and treatment of the diseases and injuries of the hard tissues and the pulp of the tooth and associated periapical lesions, alongwith restoration of those teeth to normal form function and aesthetics At the end of 36 months of training, the candidates should be able to: • Describe etiology, pathophysiology, periapical diagnosis and management of common restorative situations, endodontic situations that will include contemporary management of dental caries, management of trauma and pulpal pathosis including periodontal situations. • Demonstrate understanding of basic sciences as relevant to conservative / restorative dentistry and Endodontics. • Identify social, economic, environmental and emotional determinants in a given case or community and take them into account for planning and execution at individual and community level. • Ability to master differential diagnosis and recognize conditions that may require multi disciplinary approach or a clinical situation outside the realm of the specialty, which he or she should be able to recognize and refer to appropriate specialist. • Update himself by self-study and by attending basic and advanced courses, conferences, seminars, and workshops in the specialty of Conservative Dentistry-Endodontics-Dental Materials and Restorative Dentistry. • Ability to teach/guide, colleagues and other students.
Eligibility
Typically, to pursue an MD degree, candidates need to satisfy the eligibility criteria mentioned below:
- Candidates should have obtained a BDS Degree from an institution recognized by the Dental Council of India (DCI).
- Candidate should have completed a 1- year compulsory rotating internship after passing the final professional examination which is BDS before 31st March of the academic year.
Candidates in possession of a BDS degree or Provisional BDS Pass Certificate recognized by the Dental Council of India or State Dental Council and having completed 1 year of internship or/ are likely to complete the internship on or before 31st March of the relevant year. A candidate must clear NEET-MDS exam in order to be
- Eligible for admission to postgraduate Medical Courses for a particular academic year in case of General, General-EWS, it shall be necessary for a candidate to obtain a minimum of marks at 50th percentile in NEET-MDS (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test) to Postgraduate Medical Courses held for the said academic year.
- However, in respect of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, the minimum marks shall be at the 40th percentile. In respect of candidates with Benchmark, Disabilities specified under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, the minimum marks shall be at 45th percentile for Unreserved Category & GEN-EWS Category candidates and 40th percentile for SC/ST/OBC-NCL candidates.
- The percentile shall be determined based on highest marks secured in the All India common merit list in National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test for admission to Postgraduate Medical Courses
