Armed Forces Medical College - Pune is a Government MBBS Medical College was established in 1962 ,the College is affiliated with Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik with total intact of 150 MBBS & 193 Post MBBS MD/MS/ Diploma seats.
The Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) is a medical training institute in Pune, India, in the state of Maharashtra. The college is managed by the Indian Armed Forces. Established in May 1962 as a post-graduate teaching institution after World War II on the recommendation of the BC Roy Committee, remnants of various Indian Army Medical Corps units were amalgamated to create the Armed Forces Medical Services.
The AFMC undergraduate wing was established on 4 August 1962, which is also celebrated annually as AFMC Day by its alumni. Armed Forces Medical College, Pune is a premier medical institution in India. AFMC has the distinction of being the first medical college set up by the Armed Forces of any country in Asia. The college is a unique institution that combines medical education with training specific to the health care needs of the Armed Forces.
AFMC has been consistently rated among the top three medical colleges in India by surveys published by reputed newsmagazines for the past decade. It has received accreditation from NAAC with ‘A’ Grading and during re-accreditation carried out recently has been awarded cumulative grade point average of 3.51 out of a maximum 4, which was the highest ever awarded to any institution in India, till that time.
Admission
A total of 150 students are admitted for undergraduate MBBS course, 115 boys and 30 girls and five foreign nationals. Admission is on the basis of the National Eligibility and Entrance Test, followed by an interview. Ten seats are reserved for ST/SC candidates. Students are not allowed to be married or to marry during the course and are liable to serve in the medical services of the Armed Forces, on successful completion of MBBS, for seven years

Infrastructure
The Armed Forces Medical College has located in an environment-friendly campus spread over approximately 119 Acres at Ramtekri in eastern Pune. This college campus is home to an interesting mix of heritage buildings as well as ultramodern facilities. The campus is provided with all the needed amenities. Lecture halls, demonstration rooms, laboratories, museums, auditoriums, the students are provided fully furnished accommodation.
The Teaching and non-teaching staff are also provided accommodation with facilities of a swimming pool, cafeteria, cinema theatre, general stores, Unit run Canteen and shopping centre, and nursery school, places of religious worship, gymnasium and sports facilities for all outdoor and indoor sports available. AFMC has a total of twenty-nine departments and all teaching departments of AFMC are well-staffed with dedicated staff members, practical, Lectures, demonstrations, and clinics.
Libary
Armed Forces Medical College has a huge library with separate reading rooms that have approximately more than 50,000 books. This is a well-resourced bookkeeping facility. The Ashoka Chakra Library houses a huge number of medical literature and an e- section of this library with access to numerous international and national journals.
AFMC has completely modern equipped laboratories and dedicated lab staff with a separate block for its laboratories named the Diamond Jubilee Block. Which houses the microbiology, haematology, pathology, and biochemistry labs. This College has Two huge auditoriums, Bharadwaj and Dhanvantari. Which accommodates more than 1000 people each with all facilities.
Hostel
The Armed Forces Medical College is fully residential with separate hostels for boys and girls. Cadets should reside in the hostel for the entire duration of the course. The Boys Hostel of AFMC was built in 1965 and comprises 6 blocks of three floors each, it has a total of 277 rooms of approximately 8 square metres area with single accommodation and 162 rooms of approximately 18.5 Sqm area with the double accommodate facility and rooms are fully furnished.
In 1984 women’s hostel of this Medical college was constructed and accommodated 130 students in 70 single and 30 double accommodate rooms.The new Boys Hostel has 4 blocks constructed with four floors, each with 18 spacious rooms and balconies.
The PG Section floors for officers pursuing their post-graduation have been joined into the Boys hostel and the entire hostel has been given WiFi connectivity. In 2009 The Central Mess was opened for all cadets to dine together.
