Government Medical College - Akola is a Government MBBS Medical College was established in 2002 ,the College is affiliated with Maharashtra University of Health Sciences Nashik with total intact of 200 MBBS & 43 Post MBBS MD/MS/ Diploma seats.
In 2002 Government Medical College, at Akola was founded, this is the first medical college in the Akola region. Which was inaugurated on 12 September 2003. This was prestigiously done by the hands of the former Chief Minister, Mr. Shri. Sushil Kumar Shinde and in presence of Mr. Shri. Digvijay Khanvilkar. Akola’s Government Medical Institute is one of the high points of that city.
The attached teaching hospital, Survopchar Rugnalaya-Multispeciality hospital, It was previously known as Main Hospital. This is located near the Ashok Vaatika square. The Medical college and hospital provide health care services to Akola and underprivileged populations of four districts surrounding this city. This institution is approved by the Medical Council of India(MCI)

Government Medical College of Akola has well structured buildings with all facilities, It has four Lecture Theaters, Three of that has 180 students seating capacity in each and one lecture theater has 350 seating capacity with AV facilities and all needed facilities. There are two Demo Rooms available in Each Department with a seating capacity of 75 students in each and filled with modern amenities.
Separated Common Rooms are available in this college for boys and girls. Boys Common Rooms are available in100 Sq.Mt area in each. Girls Common Room also built-in 100 Sq. Mt. area. This Medical College Skill Lab is available in the Surgery Department, with all modern facilities. The auditorium of this Medical college has fully equipped with modern amenities and AV facilities, this has a seating capacity of 700 students.
Libary
Central Library of this Government Medical College built-in 24 Sq.mt. area, with separated reading rooms and stock room facilities. This library is fully equipped with needed facilities. This Library has a total Number of 18,868 Books, which are 17,648 textbooks and 1,220 References.
Separate students reading rooms and staff rooms are available. GMC, Akola Library has a subscription of the number journals, It has a total of 139 Journals. 73 Indian journals and 66 Foreign journals are available. The E- section of this Library has fully furnished with the latest facilities and with internet & Computer Facilities.
Hostel
Government Medical College of Akola has provided good accommodation facilities for its students and faculties and staff. It has separate hostel facilities for male and female students with fully furnished facilities. The Boy’s Hostel has a total of 179 Rooms and the Girl’s Hostel has 125 Rooms. There are 5 girls hostels available. These hostel facilities and rooms are available for two students in a single room.
The Resident Hostel is available with 114 Rooms. Quarters and rooms are available with fully furnished facilities for Teaching Staff and Non-Teaching Staff Available. It has a mess and Cafeteria for students and staff, the conditions of those sectors are highly hygienic. Hostels are available with recreation facilities for students. It has Indoor and outdoor games facilities. Separate health development facilities and gym facilities are available.
