Infrastructure

Skills Laboratory B.K.L. Walawalkar Rural Medical College has a Skills Laboratory where students can practice and improve skills pre-specified in the curriculum. The purpose of the skills laboratory is to provide a safe and non-threatening environment for students to learn, practice and be observed performing skills in a simulated environment thus mitigating the risks involved in direct patient exposure without adequate preparation and supervision.

The skills laboratory attempts to recreate the clinical environment and tasks which future health care workers have to perform with various levels of complexity and fidelity. The skills laboratory covers total area of 600 sq.M and has following facilities –
i) 04 rooms (preferably 08) for examination of patients or standardized/ simulated patients
ii) 01 room for demonstration of skills to small groups
iii) Area for review or debriefing area
iv) Rooms for faculty coordinator and support staff
v) Adequate space for storage of mannequins and/or other equipment
vi) Facility for video recording and review of the interaction for teaching communication skills
vii) Stations for practicing skills individually or in groups.
viii) Trainers or mannequins required to achieve skills outlined in the competency based undergraduate curriculum document are available.
ix) A dedicated technical officer and adequate support staff is available round the clock.
x) The teaching areas of the skills lab have provision for audio-visual and internet facilities and are enabled for e-learning

2. Central Library Having spacious reading rooms which are well lighted and ventilated and have a sitting capacity of 200 students. Currently library has more than 8600 books and 60 National and International Journals are subscribed annually. The central library has a Digital Library having 25 P.C. with internet connectivity.

It has facility for online M.U.H.S digital library access which has more than 13,000 journals and 1300 books available through internet. The library also has xerox and photo copy facility. Lecture Theatres The Medical College has 3 air-conditioned Gallery type lecture halls with audio-visual aids to accommodate 120 students and 1 Gallary type lecture hall in hospital with audio-visual aids to accommodate 150 students.

Hostel

Separate Boys and Girls hostel facilities are available. Boys Hostel has a capacity of 174 and Girls Hostel has the capacity of 240. The College has provision for 100% of the total intake of students in Hostels. Each hostel room has two occupants. The size of such room is 27 sq.mt. Each student is provided with independent and separate furniture which include chair, table, bed and full size cupboard. Each hostel has a visitor room, a study room with facilities for computer and internet. There are recreational facility rooms having T.V., Music, Indoor games etc. and messing facilities for the students.
